  • to give input in the topic of modern language learning and intercultural learning
  • to show methods of early foreign language learning
  • to encourage the creative and sensible use of media
  • to create a pan-European network of primary schools and their teachers

Workshop sessions

Wednesday, day 1

9.00 – 12.00 Uhr
The participants will introduce themselves and their own teaching situations
tell what they want to learn in the training. They will be familiarized with the training program for the next days. They will be given an introduction on the project “Primalingua”. They will watch the Primalingua platform to see
some already existing results.

12.00 – 14.00 Uhr
Lunch break

14.00 – 16.00 Uhr
The participants will get used to the technical equipment such as digital camera, audio recorder, microphone, headphones and computers. In small groups they should try out some activities to get an impression of the work with the platform and the media.

Thursday, day 2

9.00 – 12.00 Uhr
We will organize a lecture either on “intercultural learning” or “didactics of media studies” as an input for an experiential discussion of foreign language teaching in small groups afterwards.

12.00 – 14.00 Uhr
Lunch break

14.00 – 16.00 Uhr
We will watch some well working examples for intercultural activities and
programs to show you how this can be involved in the lessons.

Friday, day 3

9.00 – 12.00 Uhr
We will visit a primary school either in Lindau or in Dornbirn that already took
part in the project. There the students will present parts of their work and you will have the chance to talk to the teachers and students.

12.00 – 14.00 Uhr
Lunch break

14.00 – 16.00 Uhr
The participants will collect additional ideas, topics for further possible suitable modules for young learners in small groups and try to develop a conception of these ideas by using different photo pedagogical ideas, new methods and competence in both early foreign language teaching and in media application and didactics.

Saturday, day 4

9.00 – 12.00 Uhr
In workshops the participants will fill the conception with life by creating short
informative texts, taking photos, videos and audio files with the help of the digital equipment which is provided.

12.00 – 14.00 Uhr
Lunch break

14.00 – 16.00 Uhr
The groups will present their results in due form to the other participants. A
short discussion should follow the presentation.

Sunday, day 5

10.00 – 14.00 Uhr
We will finish the training with an evaluation session in which we want to collect suggestions for improvement and to talk about how “Primalingua” could get implemented in a regular curriculum and which options we have for future cooperation or to build a network. As well we will exchange addresses to keep in contact.

This course is set in a welcoming ambience featuring cultural tours in the region next to the “Lake of Constance” in the border triangle of Germany with Austria and Switzerland, as well as fine dining at various traditional restaurants so that you can experience authentic German culture.
